After first reporting that Ohio fighter Chris Mierzwiak (4-2, 0-0 BMMA) had signed with Bellator MMA in December, we now know the opponent for his first outing at Bellator 89: Johnny Buck (11-8, 0-0 BMMA).
The welterweight bout will take place at Bellator 89 next week in Charlotte, North Carolina, which goes down at Bojangles Arena on Valentine’s Day.
Mierzwiak, who trains at the Jorge Gurgel Academy near Cincinnati, is a one-time Strikeforce veteran. He competed at Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov in September 2011, dropping a decision to Dominique Steele on the event’s preliminary card. He is 2-1 since that loss, including most recently earning a submission victory via triangle choke over Josh Thorpe at Absolute Action MMA 29 in October.
Buck is riding a three-fight winning streak, including a knockout victory over Ricky Rainey at XFC 19 in his last outing in August. A native of North Carolina, Buck will likely be the hometown favorite in the bout.
Bellator 89 also features the quarterfinals of the Season 8 Middleweight Tournament, including Ohio product Brian Rogers vs. Dan Cramer.
